Acute Renal Failure (ARF) is one of the major complications of botropic accidents. The aim this study was evaluate the histopathological alterations caused by the Bothropsinsulares (Bi)venom. Isolated kidneys from Wistar rats, weighing 240 to 280g, were perfused with Krebs-Henseleit solution containing 6% of bovine serum albumin. After the experiments the kidneys were immersed in 10% formaldehyde for 24 hours, inserted in wax for 3 micra thickness slices and stained by hematoxilin-eosin. In the control group (c), the kidneys showed sparse areas of vacuolar-hydropic degeneration of the tubular coating cells, discreet intratubular deposition of proteic material; glomerules, interstitio and vessel with no abnormalities. In the treated group with Bothropsinsulares (Bi) venom were observed a degeneration represented by vast vacuolar-hydropic balooning of the tubular coating cells; cortical focal areas showing cells of picnotic nucleus similar to acute tubular necrosis; increased proteic depot within the tubules but normal vessels, glomerules and interstitio. In conclusion the kidney architecture is disrupted in presence of  Bothropsinsulares venom, with dead of tubular coating cells.
