Accidents caused by Crotalus genus snakes are characterized by acute renal insufficiency, and specific antivenom is not capable of to reduce this injure. The aim of this work was to characterize in rats the renal and gucose metabolism responses induced by the administration of Crotalusdurissus ruruima venom. Male wistar rats, weighting between 250-300g, were injected with an i.p. single dose of 0,05mg/Kg of C.d.ruruima(n=7)venomor saline 0,9% (control group, n=7) and 2, 48, 96h they were lightly anaesthetized with diethyl ether  and  the  blood was collected by orbital puncture. The biochemical analyses were compound of glucose (G), creatinine (Cr), urea (Ur), sodium (Na) and potassium (K) serum levels. The results were analyzed by paired and unpaired Student t test, ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis. There were significative differences in the blood glucose between 2 and 96 hours (G2h = 117,9 ±5,02 mg/dL; G96h = 136,9 ± 6,03mg/dL*; *p < 0,02) similarly serum levels of creatinine (2hCr = 0,67 ± 0,03 mg/dL; 48h Cr = 0,81 ± 0,06 mg/dL; 96hCr = 0,87 ± 0,03 mg/dL*, with *p0,01) urea (2h Ur = 40 ± 2,54 mg/dL; 48h Ur = 41,57 ± 2,73 mg/dL; 96hUr = 54,52 ± 3,31 mg/dL*, with *p0,01) and potassium (2hK = 3,74 ± 0,16 mEq/L; 48hK = 4,01 ± 0,17 mEq/L; 96hK = 5,04 ± 0,31 mEq/L*, with *p0,01). Sodium serum concentrations had no significantly difference between the groups (p>0,05). In conclusion, C.d. ruruima venom induced latter changes in glucose metabolism (96h) and renal function, with increased of creatinina (96h), urea (96h) and potassium (96h) serum levels, suggestive of renal damage.
