The aim of this work was to characterize in rats the hematologic responses induced by the administration (i.p.) of Crotalus durissus ruruima venom. Male wistar rats, weighting between 250-300g, were injected with an i.p. single dose of 0,05mg/Kg of C.d.ruruima venom (V, n=7) or saline 0,9% (control group - C, n=7) and after 2, 48, 96h they were lightly anaesthetized with diethyl ether and  the  blood was collected by orbital puncture. Hematological analyses were done by CC-550 equipment. The results were analyzed by Student t Test, ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis. Hematocrit results were compared with control group at 2h (CHto = 53,06±0,9%; VHto = 51,07±0,79%), 48h (CHto = 39,63*±0,89%*; VHto = 46,07±1,94%, with *p<0,05) and 96h (CHto = 45,39±1,18%; VHto = 39,79*±1,59%*, with *p<0,05), occurring significative decreased at 48h in the control group and 96h in the group of the c.d. ruruima venom. Erythrocytes count (2hV= 8,13±0,16 x 106/L and 2hC=8,24±0,15 x 106/L; 48hV= 6,88±0,29 x 106/L and 48hC=6,97±0,15 x 106/L; 96hV= 5,67±0,21 x 106/L and 96hC=5,72±0,12 x 106/L, with p>0,05) and hemoglobin levels (2hV= 15,2±0,17 g/dL and 2hC=15,49±0,13 g/dL; 48hV= 13,23±0,64 g/dL and 48hC=13,16±0,26 g/dL; 96hV= 11,99±0,45 g/dL and 96hC=11,71±0,21 g/dL, with p>0,05) weren’t significantly different between the groups. These results suggest that C.d.ruruima venom induce only a discreet change in the hematological profile, like a late decrease of the hematocrit.
